LIKE HEARTED PEOPLE

July 2020

In the era of big Ag and factory farms, regenerative farming is as much a passionate mission as it is a business. It is about sustainability and respect for the land and the animals that provide us with sustenance. It isn’t an easy way to farm. It takes time, commitment, hard work and the unshakable belief that when you cultivate harmony between land, animals and people you create health for each. I like to call the customers who support our vision and the people who work so hard to make it happen like hearted people.

I am so happy to share that Tyler Jones, the very best of the like hearted, has joined our team as General Manager of Agriculture Operations.

Tyler’s love for farming started as a child growing up on five acres in Corvallis, Oregon. As a child he kept honeybees and raised cattle and hogs as part of 4-H. He was drawn to the animals and the experience fueled his desire to make farming his way of life.

In 2002 he was accepted for an apprenticeship with world renowned sustainable farmer and author, Joel Salatin at Polyface Farms in Virginia.

With all the knowledge gained from a year of intense tutelage on the Salatin method of grass-based livestock farming, Tyler moved back to Oregon and founded Afton Field Farm. Along with operating a successful farm over the twelve years that followed, he found time to return to Oregon State University and finish his degree in history with an emphasis in ancient agriculture.

Brenda and Tyler having a conversation at an outdoor table

I first met Tyler in 2015 when I was searching for expert resources in the type of farming I wanted to do. His consultation in those early days was invaluable in helping me put the pieces in place to get the farm up and running.

We are all so grateful Tyler, his wife and two children have chosen to join us and excited that his extensive expertise in pastured poultry will allow us to begin offering delicious Tabula Rasa chickens in 2021. Yum!

In closing, thanks to all you like hearted people who made our July harvest such a success. We’ve already started a waiting list for our winter pork harvest. If you would like to add your name to the list, please email us at [email protected].
